How to Powerfully Impact the Next Generation

Scripture

1 Kings 2:1–3 (NLT)
As the time of King David’s death approached, he gave this charge to his son Solomon: “I am going where everyone on earth must someday go. Take courage and be a man. Observe the requirements of the Lord your God, and follow all his ways. Keep the decrees, commands, regulations, and laws written in the Law of Moses so that you will be successful in all you do and wherever you go.”

Main Idea

God’s heart is for the generations. Throughout Scripture, we see His plan unfold through the generations of His people—just as David passed the charge to Solomon to lead God’s people. Likewise, when we live with a heart for the next generation, we step deeper into God’s purpose and experience His blessings in our own lives.

1. See Them the Way God Sees Them

Time will give you a voice into someone’s life, but it will also give you insight into their life.

How does having godly insight into a person’s situation enable us to speak into their life in a way that leads them toward God’s blessing and direction?

2. Challenge Them to Be Wholehearted After God

Double standards kill your ability to impact the next generation

What is the spiritual impact of being wholehearted after God in both our words and actions? How does the next generation follow that example?

3. Encourage Them with the Promises and Blessings of God

One of the things that makes serving Jesus so attractive is when you believe in and talk about the blessing of God.

What happens when people consistently hear about the blessings and favor of God that are available? How does that shape their understanding of who God is and what He desires for their lives?

What words are you speaking over yourself about your life and God’s blessing for your future?

Respond:

Choose to speak God’s blessings over your life and your family every day!

Remember:

When we live our lives caring for the next generation, we experience more of God’s purpose and blessing in our own lives.
