Supernatural Faith to Be Healed

Acts 14:1-10

1. The supernatural boldness of Paul and Barnabus

Acts 1:8, (NIV)
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

Power: Dunamis, miraculous power, supernatural power.

Witnesses: Martus, we get our word “martyr” from it.

Acts 13:49-52, (NIV)
The word of the Lord spread through the whole region. But the Jews incited the God-fearing women of high standing and the leading men of the city. They stirred up persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them from their region. So they shook the dust from their feet in protest against them and went to Iconium. And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.

Acts 14:1-2, (NIV)
At Iconium Paul and Barnabas went as usual into the Jewish synagogue. There they spoke so effectively that a great number of Jews and Gentiles believed. But the Jews who refused to believe stirred up the Gentiles and poisoned their minds against the brothers.

2 Corinthians 4:4, (NIV)
The god of this age has blinded (root: smoke) the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

Acts 14:3, (NIV)
So Paul and Barnabas spent considerable time there, speaking boldly for the Lord, who confirmed the message of his grace by enabling them to do miraculous signs and wonders.

Acts 14:4-7, (NIV)
The people of the city were divided; some sided with the Jews, others with the apostles. There was a plot afoot among the Gentiles and Jews, together with their leaders, to mistreat them and stone them. But they found out about it and fled to the Lycaonian cities of Lystra and Derbe and to the surrounding country, where they continued to preach the good news.

2. The supernatural power of God in healing

Acts 14:8-9, (NIV)
In Lystra there sat a man crippled in his feet, who was lame from birth and had never walked. He listened to Paul as he was speaking.

Acts 10:38,
how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.

Paul looked directly at him, saw that he had faith to be healed...

Isaiah 53:4-5, (NIV)
Surely he took up our infirmities (disease, sickness, anxiety) and carried our sorrows (pain, affliction), yet we considered him stricken by God, smitten by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.

When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick. This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah:

“He took up our infirmities
and bore our diseases.”

He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.

She said to herself, "If I only touch his cloak, I will be

James 5:14-15, (ESV)
Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save (sozo: saved, healed, made whole) the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.
