6 Strategies for Battling Sin
br>
1st Remember you have been justified
br>
Justification is the act of God whereby He forgives the unsaved person’s sin and credits to them the righteousness of Christ when through faith they believe.
Romans 5:1 ESV
Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
2nd Realize you have been united with Christ
br>
1. Because He died - we died.
br>
Romans 6:3 ESV
Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?
br>
2. Because He was buried - we were buried.
br>
Romans 6:4 ESV
We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death
br>
3. Because He was raised from the dead - we were raised from the dead.
br>
Romans 6:4-5 ESV
We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.
3rd Resolve in your mind that the old you is gone
br>
Romans 6:6 ESV
For we know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin.
Romans 8:1 ESV
There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
Romans 6:6 ESV
For we know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin.
Romans 6:10 ESV
For the death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God.
Hebrews 12:5-7 ESV
And have you forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons? "My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor be weary when reproved by him. For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives." It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline?
4th Reckon yourself dead to sin
br>
Romans 6:7 ESV
For one who has died has been set free from sin.
Romans 6:8-10 ESV
Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him. For the death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God.
Romans 6:11 ESV
So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.
Truth Principle:
Considering sin to be dead in our lives is the beginning of experiencing God’s power in overcoming sin in our lives.
5th Refuse to offer your body to sin
br>
Romans 6:12 ESV
Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions.
Romans 6:13 ESV
Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness.
6th Rejoice in the fact that you are under grace
br>
Romans 6:14 ESV
For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.
Romans 6:14a ESV
For sin will have no dominion over you…
Romans 6:14a ESV
For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law…
Romans 6:14 ESV
For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.
