Letting Go
Joshua 5:1-12
1. Let go of anything that hinders us from what God has for us
Joshua 5:1-2a (ESV)
“As soon as all the kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan to the west, and all the kings of the Canaanites who were by the sea, heard that the Lord had dried up the waters of the Jordan for the people of Israel until they had crossed over, their hearts melted and there was no longer any spirit in them because of the people of Israel. At that time the Lord said to Joshua, "Make flint knives and circumcise the sons of Israel a second time."
Hebrews 12:1-2 (NIV)
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
Joshua 5:9 (ESV)
"Today I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt from you." And so the name of that place is called Gilgal to this day.”
2. Let go of the past and get ready for new ways God will work in our lives
Joshua 5:10-12a (ESV)
“While the people of Israel were encamped at Gilgal... they ate of the produce of the land, unleavened cakes and parched grain. And the manna ceased the day after they ate of the produce of the land.
Joshua 5:12b (ESV)
And there was no longer manna for the people of Israel, but they ate of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.”
3. The place of letting go is God’s presence
Joshua 5:9 (ESV)
"Today I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt from you." And so the name of that place is called Gilgal to this day.”
Joshua 5:10,12c (ESV)
“While the people of Israel were encamped at Gilgal... there was no longer manna for the people of Israel, but they ate of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.”
