Praying for the Sick
James 5:14-18
1st - The sick person is to call for the elders
James 5:14b
Let him call for the elders of the church,
2nd - The elders are to pray over the sick person
James 5:14c
and let them pray over him,
3rd - The elders are to anoint the sick person
James 5:14d
anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.
1st - It is an act of obedience
2nd - Oil is a symbol of the Holy Spirit
1 Samuel 16:13 (NIV)
So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the LORD came upon David in power.
3rd - Jesus instructed his disciples to anoint people with oil
Mark 6:4,12,13 (NIV)
Calling the Twelve to him, he sent them out two by two and gave them authority over evil spirits. They went out and preached that people should repent.They drove out many demons and anointed many sick people with oil and healed them.
James 5:15
And the prayer of faith will save (sozo: make well, heal, cure) the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.

James 5:15b
And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.

For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment on himself. That is why many of you are weak and ill, and some have died.
