The Transforming Work of the Spirit
The Father is justifying us:
Romans 8:33 NIV
“It is God who justifies”
The Son is interceding for us:
Romans 8:34
“Christ Jesus is the one who died-more than that, who was raised-who is at the right hand of God, who is interceding for us”
The Spirit is helping us:
Romans 8:26 ESV
“Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness.”

What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
Justification is the act of God whereby the sinner is given faith to believe, receives forgiveness of all sin, and is assigned the righteousness of Christ.

And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.

And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.

1st The Holy Spirit powerfully works change in us
Romans 8:5 ESV
For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.
Flesh:
1. The fallen, unredeemed, egocentric, human nature
2. The sinful, selfish, unsaved, state of mind
3. John Bunyan defined it as, “world mindedness”
1. Their mind is set on the things of the flesh

For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh…
2. The mind set on the flesh leads to death
Romans 8:6a ESV
To set the mind on the flesh is death…
3. The mind set on the flesh is hostile to God
Romans 8:7a ESV
For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God…
4. The mind set on the flesh won’t submit to God’s law
Romans 8:7 ESV
For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God's law; indeed, it cannot.
5. The mind set on the flesh cannot please God

Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

3. The Holy Spirit produces peace for us
