Fake Faith

David Lindell

Scripture

James 2:14
“What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds?”

For the full passage, read James 2:14–20.

Main Idea

There is a kind of faith that sounds spiritual but produces no change and no fruit. Genuine saving faith, however, is demonstrated through action, obedience, and a life that looks completely different than before. It’s not enough to believe the right truths—real faith transforms everything.

1. Fake Faith Is Just Words

Real faith doesn’t just speak—it acts.

Where in your life might your faith be more verbal than visible?

2. Fake Faith Doesn’t Produce

Saving faith is never the result of works, but works are always the result of saving faith.

If someone evaluated your life—not your church attendance or beliefs, but your actual obedience—what fruit would they see?

3. Fake Faith Doesn’t Transform

You can believe a lot of the right things and still be eternally lost.

How did you know when your faith transformed you from the inside out, not just informed you? Share your testimony with the group.

Call To Action

Reflect:

Does your daily life reflect the fruit of your faith in a way that is noticeable to you and to those around you?

Respond:

As you spend time with God this week, invite Him to show you areas where the fruit of your salvation needs to grow stronger.

Remember:

The ultimate evidence of a new life—a life that is truly saved—is that it changes everything about you. You can point to the old you and the new you, and they look nothing alike.
