Job Summary
Essential Responsibilities & Duties
- Oversee the classroom by implementing daily curriculum and follow the schedule set for the classroom
- Implement James River School behavior guidelines in the classroom and maintain order in the classroom in a calm, fair and just manner. Encourage students to have a kind and happy heart.
- Make sure the room is clean, stocked and in order.
- Check that children are properly checked in and out, verify matching claim tags, and ensure no media use or other distractions in the classroom.
- Verify parent and child claim tags match when children are picked up.
- Abide by the no cell phone or other media usage policy.
Job Requirements
- Completed requested background screening prior to start date.
- Register with Family Care Registry prior to start date.
- Provide physical exam results and TB test results prior to start date.
- Attend James River Church Grow Track Classes prior to start date.
- Read the License Exempt Rule Book and sign the required statement.
- Must have a college degree
- All are required to participate in the following activities:
- James River School Morning Meetings
- Attend all mandatory Training Meeting
- Easter Egg Hunt Prep Day
- Easter Egg Hunt Shift
- All required dates and events listed on the teaching contract
- Commit to attending a Bible preaching church.
- The ability to lift, push or pull 25 pounds.
- Ability to bend, twist, stoop, kneel, and reach.
- The ability to walk independently up and down a normal flight of 13-15 stairs.
Absenteeism:
- In the event you are going to be absent please notify the Sub Coordinator immediately.
- Time off should be requested two weeks in advance of absence.
If absenteeism affects your class, a meeting will be scheduled with the James River School Director and Assistant Lead
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of the curriculum provided and the ability to effectively apply it in the classroom.
- Awareness of sanitation requirements, safety protocols, and health guidelines for young children, including diaper changing and bathroom supervision.
- Knowledge of emergency evacuation routes and procedures to ensure the safety of children in the event of an emergency.
- Ability to effectively communicate with parents, children, and coworkers, including greeting with enthusiasm and maintaining positive interactions.
- Ability to manage classroom activities, schedules, and responsibilities efficiently (e.g., keeping the classroom in order, following the daily schedule, facilitating group activities).
- The ability to keep the classroom clean, organized, and stocked, ensuring everything is in order and materials are available for the day’s activities.
- Ability to encourage children to have kind and happy hearts, fostering a positive, supportive learning environment.
- Ability to adjust to different roles and handle unexpected changes or challenges throughout the day.
- Ability to engage in the physical aspects of the job, such as overseeing children’s activities, and ensuring classroom cleanliness.
- Must exhibit a spirit of unity.

- Develop and maintain a close personal walk with the Lord including:
- Daily devotional time with Lord.
- Daily dependence on the empowerment of the Spirit.
- Develop a strong marriage and family life. This includes:
- Communicating and sharing with your spouse.
- Spending time together on days off and when extra time is available.
- Keep personal finances in order with no delinquencies.
- Attend all regularly scheduled services in the church. Special services and functions will be required as deemed necessary by the Lead Pastor.
- Maintain a high level of personal integrity, honesty and confidentiality in dealing both with the staff and congregation.
- Maintain a Christian outlook and attitude at all times.
- Maintain loyalty to the staff and church, actively promoting unity within the church.
